Did you know that the first rule of Improv is to say "yes and!". This principle works well in our daily interactions as when we start by saying yes, we set the tone for collaboration.
Other helpful Improv tips:
- Add New Information: "Yes, I would love to have dinner with you tonight and there are two places I have been wanting to check out." Versus: "Yes, I would love to have dinner with you tonight." (Silence).
- Don't Block: By saying, "No" immediately it places the other in a defense mode. Even if you want to say no, lead with, "Yes, let's discuss and come to an amenable plan."
- Focus on the Here and Now. Stay in the moment and avoid bringing up the past.
