Frequently Asked Questions
What does “Zendoway” mean?
Zen is about meditation, intuition, insight, and about teaching and community. A zendo is a meeting hall or forum where that learning takes place. Zendoway is about incorporating the lessons and community of these thousand-year-old practices into modern daily life through the products and coaching support of Kerry Alison, holistic living, and the five daily principles of communication, movement, nourishment, daily routine and challenges. Participation in these activities, even to a small degree daily, will support you in being more aware, helpful, and present.
What are the cubes?
The Zendocubes are small cubes made from stress ball foam. Each side of the cubes offers different affirmations, activities, and exercises meant to strengthen and guide your overall wellbeing. Click here.
How many cubes are there?
There are 14 cubes in total. Click here for the cubes and their descriptions.
What do the cubes look and feel like?
Each cube is 2”x 2” x 2” in dimension, so they are small enough to hold in the palm of your hand. They are made from a stress ball foam, meaning they are soft, light, and easy to squeeze. In fact, one of the prompts on the cube “Coping Strategies” is “Squeeze this cube!”
How do we use the cubes?
The cubes can be used in a variety of ways. Roll them like a die, randomly pick a side, or go through every side at once for an exercise in self-care. Follow the prompts to nourish your body and mind, and squeeze the cubes for stress release! Keep them on your desk, around your home, office, or classrooms as a reminder to take a breath, relax, and listen to your mind and body. Use them in classrooms, counseling sessions, kids’ yoga classes, or at home for a fun, creative, and relaxing activity. To see how my kids and I use the cubes, check out my blog.
Do each of the cubes have a specific purpose?
Each of the cubes is named after its theme: Affirmations, Breathing, Coping Strategies, Feelings, Nourishment, Play, Principles, Questions, Yoga Poses, Chakra, and Stressed Out.
The cube “Nourishment” was created to accompany my book, “If It Does Not Grow – Say No: Eatable Activities for Kids.” This cube and book help inspire kids to eat mindfully and sustain their bodies with healthy and whole fuel. My other children’s books, including the “Audrey’s Journey” series, “Blaine’s Playful Namaste,” and “Let’s Do Yoga” pair well with different cubes. To buy a bundle of my children’s books and cubes, click here.
To read more about each cube’s purpose, check out “Cube Descriptions."
What was the inspiration behind the cubes?
I initially created these cubes as a way to get breathing into my kids’ school without using the words “yoga” or “meditation.” I thought that if I donated the cubes, that would be a very easy, accessible way to get them to pause and take a breath in challenging situations instead of getting into trouble. After I developed the first cube, “Breathing,” additional ideas kept coming to me.
Do you have supplemental material to go with each cube?
The cube “Nourishment” was created to accompany my book, “If It Does Not Grow – Say No: Eatable Activities for Kids.” This cube and book help inspire kids to eat mindfully and sustain their bodies with healthy and whole fuel. How can we purchase the cubes?

A set of four cubes is also available on Amazon, click here.
Are these cubes safe for children?
Yes! In fact, these cubes were originally designed for children, and pair well with my children’s books. They are perfect for use in classrooms, kids’s yoga classes, counseling sessions, and more! To purchase a bundle of the cubes and my children’s books, click here.

Are you a therapist?
I am not a therapist, although I do have a minor in psychology. Since I’ve done so much work on my own mindfulness and self-awareness, I’ve grown super passionate about sharing this with others. To share the tools I’ve found helpful both in my life and from a human resources perspective, I’ve started coaching.
Who can benefit from coaching?
Everyone! Getting a coach is one of the best ways to invest in yourself and your wellbeing. While most people will find coaching beneficial, it is especially helpful to those who are feeling overwhelmed and are at risk of burnout. To take some time to invest in yourself, check out my coaching packages.
How does coaching work?
I believe we each have all the answers within our core. I serve as a guide to bring awareness to how you can take forward action to have the life you want and deserve. We are each unique and what works for others may not work for you. Together, we will pull from my toolbox that which you need today and determine what will work for you where you are now. The one thing we all can benefit from is a bit more self-care, love and nurturing. If we take care of ourselves first, many times other areas of our life fall into place nicely.
Read more about my coaching methods here.
What kind of coaching do you offer?
I offer coaching packages for any needs you might have – whether they’re long term or short term! Check out my coaching packages here.
How did you become interested in holistic wellness?
After I received my first yoga certification, I started taking a journey inward and healing the parts that weren’t so good. I have a Type-A personality, and things are usually very go-go-go. It was when I took that quiet time that I started to reflect on my life and I realized that although I was happy, there were aspects of my life that I could change. I like to joke that I’m a “recovering people pleaser.” I had to be courageous and take that step back and realize the things that I wanted to focus on. I’ve found that the more honest I am with myself, the better my life is and the better my relationships with other people are. Of course, I’m not perfect, but luckily wellness isn’t about being perfect; It’s about staying committed to being your best self.
How are ways you’ve increased your wellness?
I teach and practice yoga, subscribe to Ayurveda, run, and deepen my spirituality in all things. I trust my spirit, and that is what has allowed me to balance my various roles. To see other ways I’ve increased my wellness, check out my blog.
To check out some books that I’ve used on my journey, check out this page.

How can we inspire our kids to become interested in their own wellness?
Perhaps the best thing you can do to get your kids interested in their own wellness is teaching them to love themselves. Once they appreciate and respect what they offer to offer the world, they’ll soon find that a lot of other things will fall into place and that they can give more love to all beings. One of my books, “Loving Kindness,” helps demonstrate this lesson. Check it out here.
Another great place to start is to teach them to nourish their bodies with healthy and whole foods. Instead of forcing them to eat vegetables and fruits, ask them to be brave and open their mind to different flavors – and even play with their food! Making a child’s interactions with new fruits and vegetables positive will encourage them to build lifelong healthy habits in every aspect of their lives. One of my award-winning books, “If It Does Not Grow – Say No” might help encourage your children to make healthier choices. Check it out here: http://www.doesnotgrowsayno.com/
Another book that I read during my journey – and often still do – is Annie Burnside’s Soul to Soul Parenting.
What is your greatest tip for people just starting out on their wellness journey?
Self-Care. Try doing one thing every day that’s just for yourself. You’ll soon find that everything else will fall into place. For more ideas on how to take care of yourself, visit the self-care section of my blog: http://www.zendoway.com/blog/category/self-care
