Affirmations
Everyone at some point in their lives has probably heard some form of the adage, “Love yourself first.” But what does this mean? It means being yourself and respecting your abilities and talents, and treating yourself as you treat your parents, children, and friends. Nobody is perfect, but if you make a daily effort speak kindly to yourself and appreciate what you have, you’ll soon find that you feel happier and lighter. Unfortunately, it is impossible to please everyone. If you look inward for validation instead of finding it within other people, trusting and affirming yourself will become second nature. Take time for yourself.
The focus of this cube is professing your love to your best friend: yourself! Roll this cube as a die, randomly pick a side, or go through every side at once. You might find that it helps to stand in front of a mirror. Even if it sounds silly at first, practice saying I love you to yourself until you believe it. Let this cube be your guide.
Breathing
Everyone has days where they feel stressed, upset, angry, or insecure. Although it is normal and healthy to feel this way sometimes, breathing is an easy way to combat these emotions and stop a bad mood from turning into a bad day. By focusing your energy on your breathing instead of what’s stressing you, you’ll get a much-needed mental break that allows you to recharge. This cube demonstrates easy breathing techniques that help you focus on the positives.
Coping Strategies
Dealing with any type of conflict, whether it’s small or large, takes a toll on your mood and ability to focus. This cube, developed by 25 teachers and school counselors, offers guidance on how to relax, think positively, and work through your problems.
Feelings
A person cycles through many different emotions every day. With such busy schedules, it’s often hard to take on the daunting task of trying to understand ourselves and the way we feel – where do we even begin? This cube guides you as you take a tour through your mind. Keep it on your desk as a reminder to take time for yourself, and finish the statements by taking inventory of your thoughts.
Gratitude
We can find something to be grateful for each and every day. This cube is the second cube developed in conjunction with Greg Hedler, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and based on the principles of positive psychology. By being thankful for what we experience, own, and manifest within ourselves, we are more willing to see the beauty in every challenge, lesson, and moment.
Happy
This cube was developed in conjunction with the Amal Alliance and leading trauma experts to provide psycho-social support to displaced children in refugee camps and informal settlements across the world. The Happy Cube is intended to engage children on multiple emotional levels that are inspired by self-compassion, mindful expression, self-regulation, happiness, loving kindness, and movement.
Nourishment
This cube, supplementing Kerry’s book, “If It Does Not Grow - Say No: Eatable Activities for Kids,” is about eating mindfully and inspiring your kids to do the same. It helps guide you to natural, whole foods and reflect on how eating makes you feel. These exercises are especially helpful to children, whose taste buds change quickly. Instead of forcing them to eat a certain type of vegetable, inspire them to be brave and open their minds to different flavors – and even play with their food! Making a child’s interactions with new fruits and vegetables positive will encourage them to build lifelong healthy habits. This cube is perfect for snack time, family meals, and even rainy day activities!
Play
With all our focus going to work, school, or activities, it’s hard to find time to be present in the moment we’re in. This cube serves as a reminder to enjoy the little things, keep a wild imagination, and encourage others to see the world a little differently. Even the design on this cube shows just how connected the world really is: when we feel good about ourselves, everyone benefits. When we nurture our wellness, we are indirectly nurturing the wellness of others. This cube helps us strengthen our relationship with ourselves while we interact with others.
Positivity
This cube, developed in conjunction with Greg Hedler, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, is based on the principles of positive psychology. Positive psychology focuses on the basic desire to fulfill our lives with goals that are meaningful and bring us self-actualization. Specifically, this cube helps us to reflect on the things going right in our daily lives – the little “wins” that make us proud and boost our mood.
Principles
Self-love is a journey, and it comes in different forms:
Questions
This cube asks us the questions that will help our relationships with ourselves and with others. It asks us what we want to nurture and how we can cultivate what we love most. What will you focus on? What do you need to let go of? What negatives can you change into positives? It helps us face what is holding us back from achieving our goals, and reminds us to keep setting new ones so we may always try our best. This cube has many purposes, but has seen success in relationship counseling.
Yoga Poses
This cube has great use for yoga students and teachers, but can also be a great reminder to find relaxation. Feeling stressed? Just feel like stretching? Roll the cube to find a random position, and try to hold it for a few minutes or as long as you can. Try other variations of the same pose, pose category, or a new pose entirely. Categories include relaxing, twists, bends, inversions, stretching, and balancing.
Chakra
Each side of the cube represents a Chakra or part of our body that energy flows through. It is said that if one of these chakras is blocked for some reason, we become susceptible to illness. Use this cube to say aloud the seed sound their affirmations. Put your focus on where each chakra is located. Use the affirmations and your energy to heal your body, heart, mind, and soul.
Stressed out?
This cube was inspired and designed by Kerry’s children. Exactly as its name suggests, this cube is perfect for anytime you feel overwhelmed and stressed. Roll the cube for positive affirmations, activities, and coping strategies.
